goes back several decades since it was in service.

TULIP FARM, WOODLAND

Show fields are now open for the 2022 season

There will continue to be a show-field and U-Pick field planted for the community by Benno and Holland America Flower Gardens for the foreseeable future. Keep in mind, when consistently planting the same crop in the same location, we must rotate our fields so as not to leach all the nutrients and supplement from the soil for future use. The tulip fields will rotate each year to provide quality blooms.

Benno looks forward to providing this local treasure of a beautiful show tulip field and U-pick tulip field for years to come.

MT. ST. HELENS

Mount St. Helens’ infamous eruption on the morning of May 18, 1980, punched a 1,300-foot (396-meter) hole in the volcano and sent fire and ash raining down the mountainside. Visitors today can view the mountain’s crater, spot wildlife, see the country’s youngest glacier, and witness the surrounding forest’s recovery.

June Lake

An easy and popular hike perfect for family picnicking, the lake isn’t much, but the setting is peaceful and geologically intriguing. Formed by an old mudflow, June Lake is fed by a 70-foot waterfall tumbling off basalt cliffs from an old lava flow. June-Lake
The other forest, known formerly as the Lava Cast Forest, encompasses three-dimensional imprints of trees in the old lava beds called lava casts. The boardwalk trail loops through the two forests and is kid- and wheelchair-friendly.

During eruptive activity some 1900 years ago, fluid lava flowed through a stand of trees, burning them but leaving impressions where they stood or lay. This lava was quite different from the sticky type of lava that forms the dome in the crater of St. Helens today.

When you visit the Trail of Two Forests, please stay on the trail — the mosses and surrounding features of the forest are fragile.

WTA Pro Tip: One attraction along the boardwalk is a ladder descending eight feet into a lava-cast tree mold. Hikers can crawl through the tree mold, an activity especially popular with youngsters. Flashlights and old, warm clothes are good preparation for the fun.
